Towards the east of the village of Manhattan in New York, lies the East Village. This mesmerizing village contains several local attractions, each with its own character. The village was traditionally considered to be the part of the east side. There were many crack dens found here in the older times. These cracks are now converted into modern East Village apartments that are not only enchanting but also turning more and more expensive with every passing day.
Let’s have a look at some of the most vibrant attractions of the New York East Village:
Tompkins Square Park – This is a perfectly groomed park for your morning walks, picnics and friendly gossips. Tompkins Square Park has a historical significance and has witnessed many political demonstrations that took place here.
Ottendorfer Library - This is the oldest free lending library of New York that still seems to be the favorite among the locals. Designed in the year 1884, it now serves as an important branch of the New York Public Library.

Cooper Union – This beautifully structured institution is the only private college in United States that offers full-scholarship and prepares students for art, engineering and architecture. This American education epitome occupies many buildings that constitute the legacy of Peter Cooper, the American industrialist, inventor, and philanthropist.
St. Marks Place- This is the favorite place for those searching for restaurants, shops and bars. You will often find here the slow paced crowd of youngsters who make this place a little crowded. This is a good place for people gazers who can have a look at the swing of students from Cooper Union and NYU.
Alamo or ‘the cube’- This is a fascinating steel cube situated in the center of Astor Place. Locals prefer calling it Astor Place Cube. It is very interesting to see the structure rotating when pushed on any side. Another of its sister cube is placed at Michigan’s University campus.
